Course Description

An introduction to computers, evolution of computer systems and the impact of computers on the society. In this hands-on laboratory course, students will use Macintosh computers to learn about components of computer systems and study various applications including word processing, spreadsheet, database, presentation and internet browsing software. With the HyperCard, students will learn how to design and program in the multimedia environment. Each student will then use this knowledge to develop an individual final project for the course.

Course Objectives

By the end of this course, the student should have achieved a level of fluency with information technology encompassing contemporary skills, foundational concepts, and intellectual capabilities as described in the Committee on Information TechnologyÕs report, Being Fluent with Information Technology.Ê Students will learn foundational concepts of information technology including digital representations of information, networks, and information organization, as well as contemporary skills such as setting up a computer, using a word processor, using the internet to find information, using spreadsheets, databases, communication software, and graphics and presentation packages.
