GQM Task II

Early in the semester you prepared a GQM model given a goal. Since that time we have explored a number of topics that may be germane to the GQM task. For this task you will revisit the prior GQM task, then develop a GQM model.

Task

Your group is to complete the GQM template for a pre-specified goal. Your group will determine questions related to the goal and measures that should illuminate the issues. Each group uses the GQM process as outlined in Basili, Caldiera, Rombach (1994). The table below provides an initial goal for each group. This is the starting point for the GQM process. Each group should take the goal given and elaborate a GQM model. A template for the GQM structure is provided as a word document. Notice the template establishes the purpose, issue, object, and viewpoint. Hence, you are to develop the questions and metrics. The template is intended to help structure your exploration, and facilitate the development of the issues in a top-down manner.

We are going to reverse the GQM process somewhat. Look first at the measures we applied during the analysis in problem set I. We massaged the data in a variety of ways. How might such perspectives be useful in establishing questions and metrics for the GQM model? Think about how the types of analysis we did in the problem set provides new issues that we may wish to pursue, or how the analysis provides insight into the issue defined by our goal. Also, review the process analysis provided. I have given links to sixteen process analyses below, some successful and some unsuccessful (as indicated by the suffix on the anchor). Your exploration may include review of different process models used by students in elaborating your response.

Once you have completed your GQM model, use the data and analysis provided in problem set I to complete the task. I have posted in Portal a complete data set with my analysis from problem set I. The idea is to use the metrics you define in the GQM model to determine how well the goal is being met through the questions you raise in your model. This should result in a narrative discussion. The discussion should be added to the word processing file containing your GQM model.

You will work in groups of two or three on this task. The group assignments are: Groups A, B, C do Goal 1, Groups D, E, F do Goal 2, and Groups G, H, I do Goal 3. The complete, group, GQM model plus narrative is due on Friday, March 26, uploaded to Portal as a word processing document.
